Course Overview

The Safeguarding & Mental Capacity module is perhaps the most important course for ensuring the ethical and legal safety of service users. This module empowers carers to be the voice for those who may not be able to speak for themselves. You will learn to recognize the subtle signs of abuse, understand the legal protections offered by the Mental Capacity Act, and fulfill your “Duty of Care” with confidence.

Delivered at our West Hampstead Academy—the area’s only facility offering unrivalled hands-on training—this session provides a safe space to discuss sensitive topics and legal complexities with expert guidance.

Training Efficiency & Logistics

Our Academy is designed to provide high-level compliance training without the long wait times:

  • Same-Day Delivery: Complete your safeguarding and mental capacity training in a single, comprehensive face-to-face session.
  • 3 to 4 Courses Per Day: Many learners combine this module with Dementia Care or Infection Control for a productive day of professional development.
  • Expert Moderation: We limit sessions to 10 learners per day. This small group size is essential for the sensitive discussions and case studies involved in safeguarding training.

Certification & Trust

We provide industry-leading certification that demonstrates your commitment to service user safety:

  • 3-Year Validity: Your Safeguarding & Mental Capacity certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of issue.
  • QR Code Validation: Every certificate features a unique QR code. This allows employers or CQC inspectors to verify your credentials instantly, providing unrivalled trust and transparency in your compliance.

What You Will Learn

This module covers the legal frameworks and observational skills required to protect vulnerable adults:

  • Types of Abuse: Learning to identify physical, emotional, financial, sexual, and institutional abuse, as well as neglect and self-neglect.
  • The Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005: Understanding the five core principles, including the presumption of capacity and “Best Interest” decisions.
  • Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS): Knowing the legal requirements for when a service user’s liberty may need to be restricted for their own safety.
  • Whistleblowing & Reporting: Clear protocols on how to raise a concern, who to contact, and your legal protection when speaking up.
  • Promoting Rights: How to balance the “Dignity of Risk” with the need for safety.

Why Train at our West Hampstead Academy?

As the only training center in the area, we provide a learning experience that goes far beyond a computer screen:

  • Scenario-Based Learning: Work through real-world case studies to practice identifying and reporting safeguarding concerns.
  • Legal Clarity: Our trainers break down complex legislation into “plain English” that you can apply directly to your daily work.
  • Continuous Support: Safeguarding is a heavy topic; training face-to-face allows for peer support and expert reassurance, ensuring you leave feeling empowered rather than overwhelmed.
