Catheter Care – Level 2

Location: Our Training Academy, West Hampstead
Delivery: Face-to-Face / Onsite (Same-Day Delivery)
Accreditation: CPD Certified

Course Overview

The Catheter Care module is designed to provide carers with the technical knowledge and sensitive approach required to manage urinary catheters safely. Proper catheter management is vital not only for the physical health of the service user—preventing painful infections and complications—but also for maintaining their dignity and overall wellbeing in a home care setting.

Delivered at our West Hampstead Academy—the area’s only facility offering unrivalled hands-on training—this module ensures you are competent in the latest clinical best practices and infection control protocols.

Training Efficiency & Logistics

We understand the needs of busy care teams and provide a schedule that works for you:

  • Same-Day Delivery: Complete your clinical training in a single, focused face-to-face session.
  • 3 to 4 Courses Per Day: Many learners combine Catheter Care with PEG Feeding or Pressure Care to complete multiple Level 2 modules in one visit.
  • Intimate Learning Environment: We limit our classes to 10 learners per day. This allows for detailed practical demonstrations and a supportive space to practice handling equipment.

Certification & Trust

Our certification provides transparency and long-term compliance:

  • 3-Year Validity: All Catheter Care certificates are valid for 3 years from the date of issue.
  • QR Code Validation: Every certificate features a unique QR code. This allows employers or CQC inspectors to verify your training instantly with a simple scan, ensuring your qualifications are trusted and verified.

What You Will Learn

This module covers the essential aspects of daily catheter maintenance and monitoring:

  • Types of Catheters: Understanding indwelling, suprapubic, and intermittent catheters.
  • Infection Prevention: Mastery of “Aseptic Non-Touch Technique” (ANTT) to prevent Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTIs).
  • Drainage Systems: How to safely empty and change leg bags and night bags while maintaining a closed system.
  • Monitoring & Documentation: Observing urine output (color, clarity, and volume) and recording findings accurately.
  • Dignity & Comfort: Practical tips for positioning tubing to prevent pulling and ensuring the service user’s privacy during care.

Why Train at our West Hampstead Academy?

As the only training center in the area with dedicated clinical suites, we offer an experience that online courses cannot match:

  • Hands-On Practice: Use medical-grade catheter models and drainage bags to perfect your technique before working with service users.
  • Troubleshooting Skills: Learn how to identify common issues such as blockages, bypassing, or signs of infection.
  • Expert Support: Our trainers provide guidance on how to discuss catheter care sensitively with service users to reduce any anxiety or embarrassment.
